Thing 4: Digital Security

I thought the Information Commissioner’s Office smartphone security documents were great. Sensible, straightforward and clear. They prompted me to check that I have my phone set to require a password for in-app purchases, delete a handful of apps that I don’t use, and make a note of my phone’s IMEI number. I feel a bit conflicted about the Privacy Cleaner app, though. It was rather alarming with its “100% at risk” home page and red exclamation marks. I suppose it’s a good way to highlight the permissions you are granting to apps, and it has prompted me to uninstall 2 out of 3 of the apps that were flagged as highest risk, but can’t quite bring myself to get rid of the Amazon Shopping app because it’s just so useful…
